Facility to Support Power Generation, Industrial and Petrochemical Customer Needs in Russia and the CIS Region

MOSCOW - Building on a commitment to provide enhanced levels of service and support to customers in Russia and around the world, GE Energy today opened its new Sales, Services and Technology Center in Moscow. The office will allow GE to quickly respond to the needs of regional municipal, utility and industrial customers as Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) seek to modernize their energy and petrochemical infrastructure systems.

The new facility is part of GE’s strategy to expand its local operations in Russia. Through the center, GE will be able to more effectively expand and integrate the activities of its Power & Water, Energy Services and Oil & Gas divisions with those of its customers and partners in the region.

“Our new facility demonstrates GE’s long-term commitment to invest in sustainable energy infrastructure development in the region,” said Rod Christie, president of GE Energy for Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and CIS. “By ensuring our technical, operational, engineering and commercial resources are located closer to our customers, we can more rapidly respond to their needs in any part of Russia and throughout the region.”

Currently, 140 people work for GE Energy in Russia. However, GE expects its Russian workforce to expand as the company continues its localization efforts in the country and as customers modernize their energy assets. To that end, GE Energy will be hosting two recruiting days in Moscow--one in March and one in April--to identify prospective candidates for Russia-based field engineering positions. More information about the open positions can be found at GE Careers.

“In addition to helping customers address their evolving energy and environmental challenges, GE is expanding the opportunities for local employment and training in high-tech engineering positions. All of our work supports Russia’s broader goals to promote energy security, efficiency and reduce environmental impacts by utilizing world class technologies to foster sustainable economic growth throughout the region,” Christie said.

New Center Offers Benefits for Customers

An important feature of the new Moscow site is its product demonstration and training area, where educational programs, conferences, product training and hands-on operational experience will be offered to employees of both GE and its customers.

The demonstration area is part of an expanded Optimization & Control Customer Application Center (CAC), where customers can learn how GE’s latest plant optimization & control technology can help improve plant efficiency and reliability. Customers can also obtain hands-on experience with the advanced technology equipment and receive training for their employees.

For example, GE’s Moscow CAC team works with operators of power generation gas turbines to demonstrate how they can incorporate the latest in remote condition monitoring technology and control systems to boost the performance of their plants.

The CAC also features demonstration capabilities for GE’s Oilfield Technology product line used for advanced, “smarter” oil and gas exploration and production. These products are of interest to oilfield service customers involved in both offshore and onshore drilling and production activities.

GE is offering this capability in Moscow in addition to previously opened CACs in Florence, Italy; Singapore; Shanghai, China; and Houston, USA, with additional ones planned to open later in 2009.
