SPAM Enters China’s Market

Expanding on the success of the SPAM in other Asian markets, Hormel has taken the product to China.

“We are launching the SPAM family of products in China,” according to Marianne Pollock, senior product manager of the SPAM family of products for Hormel Foods International. “Based on success of the brand to delight consumers in Korea, the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan, we aim to replicate this scale and success.”

According to Pollock, Hormel will focus marketing efforts on providing in-store product samples and “one-on-one marketing tactics” to reach Chinese consumers. The promotional goal is to introduce those consumers to SPAM’s “salty-sweet sizzle taste.”

“The SPAM family of products has a taste that people in Western markets have loved and craved for more than 70 years and we look forward to sharing this same experience with consumers in China,” Pollock says.
