Look Who’s Talking Now! America’s Financial Experts Educate Military Families

WEBWIRE

When America’s financial experts talk, people listen. And that’s exactly what United States active duty military personnel and their families did Saturday, January 24 at Fort Belvoir, Va.

The Personal Financial Counseling Program, sponsored by the Department of Defense (DoD) and administered by MHN, the behavioral health division of Health Net, Inc., held a one-day financial roadshow to educate families on how to make smart financial decisions.

Youth of military personnel enjoyed an entertaining presentation by famed Sammy the Rabbit, who teaches children healthy financial habits, beginning with saving their money.

Military personnel and their spouses listened to Terry Savage’s keynote presentation, The Savage Truth about Money, and John Sileo, America’s Top Identity Theft Expert, on how to bulletproof their identity, followed by numerous financial workshops throughout the day.

The Personal Financial Counseling Program, the first of its kind for the military community, drew attention from media giants CNN and the Pentagon Channel at Fort Belvoir’s Saturday event. And it’s no surprise, really. Program leaders are thrilled with the program’s wildfire success. Since November 2008, more than 85,000 service members and their spouses have participated in the roadshows.

This year, the Personal Financial Counseling Program will continue to sweep across the nation, hosting one-day roadshows at military installations. Workshops will address credit repair, financial planning for deployment, purchasing a home, avoiding foreclosure, financial planning for newlyweds and investing in today’s economy. In addition, roadshows provide the opportunity for service members and their families to receive one-on-one counseling and advice from national financial experts.
