D-LINK Green™ Technology wins mobile innovative award from LAPTOP MAGAZINE

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif.— Laptop Magazine’s annual Mobile Innovative Awards competition recognizes breakthroughs in the design and functionality of mobile technology products and services. Typically, the judges single out individual products for recognition. This year, they also chose a technology - D-Link Green™ energy-saving features added to the company’s 802.11n routers.

“We give them a green thumbs up,” said the editors of the national publication for mobile computing enthusiasts.

One of the many energy-saving features of D-Link Green technology that sparked the judges’ decision was the unique Wi-Fi scheduling that allows D-Link’s new 802.11n routers, including the D-Link Xtreme N™ Gigabit Router (DIR-655), D-Link Xtreme N Duo™ Media Router (DIR-855) and the D-Link Xtreme N Gaming Router (DGL-4500), to reduce energy consumption when not in use, whether it be Wi-Fi or Ethernet connectivity.

“Users can set the routers to stay off when they are at work, start back up when they get home, and then shut off when they are ready to go to bed,” the editors added.

When D-Link introduced Green technology into its new 802.11n routers last July, the end-to-end computer networking solutions provider became the first manufacturer to produce Green home network Wi-Fi routers. D-Link Green technology is capable of saving up to 40 percent in power usage compared to traditional routers.

In addition to the Wi-Fi scheduling feature, the innovative D-Link Green technology automatically detects link status and network cable length, then halts power to the ports, or adjusts power accordingly, to further save energy.

“D-Link is working to take the lead in integrating innovative, energy-saving technology into our home and business networking solutions that doesn’t sacrifice performance or functionality,” said Steven Joe, president and CEO of D-Link Systems, Inc. “By offering green features to some of our most popular Wi-Fi routers, we’re helping protect the environment while our customers save money in the process.”

The D-Link Green-enabled Wi-Fi routers are part of an ongoing company-wide D-Link Green computing initiative that includes manufacturing environmentally-responsible products, using post-consumer content in packaging, choosing ENERGY STAR certified power adapters, providing consumer education and recycling programs, and distributing the network technology industry brief titled “Green Computing and D-Link: The Green Movement and Specific D-Link Solutions Reduce Detrimental Impacts on the Environment.”
