The third annual America Saves Week is scheduled for February 22-March 1, 2009, and early reports indicate that the Week will have more participation and a broader reach than ever before according to Alan Chokov, Founder/CEO of www.efinanceportal.com, an interactive, multicultural, Financial, Business & Educational Portal, developed exclusively for New Jersey. The Portal promotes Financial Literacy and the professionals who support its efforts.

The American Savings Education Council, who are working with a large coalition to promote the savings message and foster better savings behavior, is coordinating by the America Saves campaign and activities for America Saves Week 2009. Among the many companies, agencies and organizations committed to participating are the Cooperative Extension Service, WorldatWork and the Department of Defense.

During America Saves Week 2008, over 80 national organizations and over 500 local organizations participated, reaching millions through the press and Internet. Over 75,000 people attended over 1,800 events, and tens of thousands joined the America Saves campaign and committed to begin saving.

America Saves Week is a campaign to promote savings for future financial goals, particularly by low and moderate-income U.S. households under the leadership of the Consumer Federation of America and participating Saves sponsors in New Jersey.

New Jersey Saves Week (NJSW) is organized by the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education (NJCFE). It includes information and events designed to promote savings by New Jersey residents, including financial programs for consumers conducted by NJCFE member organizations and promotion of the direct deposit of tax refunds at volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) sites. A Web site with information about savings and related topics will be available year-round and a week of special events to promote savings will be conducted annually.

The objectives of New Jersey Saves Week are to:

Create awareness in New Jersey of personal finance topics, especially the need for regular savings.

Encourage New Jersey residents to save money and enroll as American Savers (www.AmericaSaves.org) and increase visibility for the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education and its member organizations.

Establish a New Jersey Saves Week Web site, linked to America Saves, for ongoing savings promotion in New Jersey. Additional Financial Educational information containing over 50,000 categories and 17 industries is provided by www.efinanceportal.com
