DebtWave Credit Counseling, a San Diego based non-profit organization committed to educating the community on the proper use of credit through budget management and counseling, is reaching out to the community by offering evening classes through Grossmont Adult School starting January 9, 2009.

DebtWave’s Community Education Outreach Program provides free educational seminars to schools, colleges, businesses, churches and community organizations discussing topics related to consumer debt, proper use of credit, household budgeting, credit report evaluation and repair, housing counseling and foreclosure prevention.

Recently the Education Department as part of their Community Education Outreach Program partnered with San Diego City College, Students in Free Enterprise proving a series of financial education seminars. DebtWave’s Education Department will continue to provide these seminars into 2009.

Mike Marsden, Director of Operations for DebtWave, points out, “Lack of financial education is one of the main reasons people struggle with debt. They don’t teach us in high school how to handle credit card debt, the importance of low interest rates or how to create a monthly spending plan. Once you learn these things you become motivated. And that motivation can lead to a financially fit future.”

DebtWave also offers an in-house Debt Management Program that helps consumers pay-back their credit card debt. Through this program most clients receive the benefits of one monthly payment, reduced interest rates, and no future late fees. Over the last three years, DebtWave has helped over 2,000 clients reach their goal of becoming debt free through this program.

Sarah Davis, Customer Service Manager at DebtWave, “Becoming debt free is much like weight loss, it is easy to pack it on and difficult to take-off.” Ms. Davis continues, “Having healthy habits regarding money and debt will reduce your stress level, subsequently, improving your quality of life, so the hard work is worth the effort.”
