WASHINGTON - Verizon has named Faizun Kamal director of strategic alliances and public policy.

Kamal is responsible for directing national outreach to leaders in the Asian-American community and to women, youth and education stakeholder groups. Kamal also works with Verizon’s healthcare reform initiative - an effort to educate Verizon employees and the public about health care issues and solutions.

“Faizun’s extensive background in the area of health care and her track record of developing meaningful partnerships with both governmental and non-governmental organizations will be a tremendous asset to Verizon,” said Emilio Gonzalez, Verizon vice president of strategic alliances and public policy. “Faizun is the ideal person for this position, and we are delighted to have her on Verizon’s team.”

Prior to joining Verizon, Kamal worked at The Johns Hopkins University where she managed health portfolios in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe and worked as a liaison between the public and private sectors to improve health care service delivery.

Prior to that, Kamal was with Lutheran World Relief where she developed and implemented the organization’s strategic planning process. She has also worked extensively in Asia and Africa on social development and policy issues with bilateral and multilateral organizations such as the Canadian Development Agency, the Swiss Development Corporation and the World Bank.

Kamal is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College. She also earned master’s degrees in business administration and public policy from The Johns Hopkins University.
