The next generation in IAQ monitoring technologies will be showcased at the world’s largest HVAC&R venue.

The BlackBoxx, designed by KD Engineering, will make its official unveiling at the 2009 AHR Expo in Chicago, Illinois next month. The AHR Expo was chosen to introduce the state-of-the-art indoor air quality (IAQ) monitoring technology because of its enormous draw with close to 60,000 attending from over 30 countries.

With public awareness of indoor air quality on the rise, monitoring air quality conditions in buildings has taken on increased importance in recent years. Fortunately new innovations in sensor and data logging technologies now allow building professionals to economically monitor the IAQ of buildings like never before. These programs allow for proactive monitoring, fast and reliable investigations of complaints or concerns, and can even create historical IAQ documentation.

The KD Engineering BlackBoxx is a two function instrument meant to work in conjunction with the popular shAirBoxx IAQ monitors. Up to 16 individual shAirBoxxes throughout a building can now be connected simultaneously with one BlackBoxx. The BlackBoxx then uses zigbee technology to collect data and store up to 225,000 data points.

The BlackBoxx also has the ability to upload data directly to the internet. It can use a number of different technologies including WiFi, cellular modem, ethernet, and WiMax. Not all buildings have the same or any internet access, so KD Engineering has build in redundancies in the communication technology.

Upload options include a data-hosting website or the BlackBoxx can be configured to communicate with a corporate website or intranet. The website can even be configured to send email alerts based on specific parameters and also transmit an alert if one or more monitors go offline.

KD monitors are currently distributed by many of the industries’ leading product distributors, including EMSL Analytical and EMLab P&K. The monitors are also internationally represented by distributors in Canada and Asia. Attendees of the AHR Expo can view the BlackBoxx by visiting KD Engineering’s booth #1353.
