The IOC Executive Board (EB), in its new composition, will meet on 10 and 11 December 2008 in Lausanne, at the IOC headquarters. This December EB meeting will be a first for two of its members. Frank Fredericks and Nawal El Moutawakel will take their first steps within the EB. Since August 2008, Frank Fredericks, double Olympic silver medallist, has been Chairman of the IOC Athletes’ Commission, and will represent the voice of the athletes within the IOC’s decision-making body. As for his colleague, Nawal El Moutawakel, Olympic 400m hurdles champion at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles and current Minister of Youth and Sports in Morocco, she is also Chairperson of the Evaluation Commission for the 2016 Games. They join a team led by IOC President Jacques Rogge, and composed of Lambis V. Nikolaou, Chiharu Igaya, Thomas Bach, Zaiqing Yu, Ser Miang Ng, Mario Pescante, Sam Ramsamy, Gerhard Heiberg, Denis Oswald, René Fasel, Mario Vázquez Raña and Richard L. Carrión.

Closing a busy year
For their last meeting of this Olympic year, the EB members will have a packed agenda. On the programme, reports by the IOC commissions; the state of preparations for the upcoming Games in Vancouver, London and Sochi; the organisation and programme of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore; the three pending doping cases from the Beijing Games; and the 2009 Olympic Congress, without forgetting a joint meeting with the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
The day after the EB meeting, the name of the host city for the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012 will be announced live on www.olympic.org.

The IOC’s decision-making body
Created in 1921, the EB consists of the IOC President, four Vice-Presidents and 10 other members; all are elected by the Session for a four-year term of office. The EB manages the IOC’s affairs. Its numerous functions include ensuring the Olympic Charter is respected; assuming supreme responsibility for the IOC’s administration; managing the IOC’s finances; and leading the acceptance and selection procedure for Olympic Games candidate cities. EB meetings are convened by the President, at his initiative, or at the request of the majority of its members.
