First car insurance company to offer pet injury coverage now has online pet photo sharing.

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio . — If you’ve ever duked it out about whether Fido or Fifi is the cutest pooch, you can now put the debate to rest with Progressive’s new pet photo gallery. Pet owners upload photos of their dogs or cats to the progressive.com pet photo gallery and visitors vote for their favorites. Every Monday, a new “Pet of the Week” is named based on the number of votes. The winning pet is then featured prominently on the progressive.com home page and in the gallery for one week.
Pet lovers can upload photos of their dogs and cats on Progressive’s new pet photo gallery.

In September 2007, Progressive became the first car insurance company to offer pet injury coverage for dogs and cats injured in car accidents. Pet injury coverage is free to all Progressive auto insurance customers who have Collision coverage. If the customer’s dog or cat is hurt in a car accident, the pet injury coverage pays up to $500 for veterinary bills.

“We started offering pet injury coverage because we know most people think of their pets as an important part of the family and want them to be protected in case of an accident,” said Matt Lehman, Progressive’s Web experience director. “We thought the pet photo gallery would be a fun way for our customers to express their affection for their pets and share pictures of their pets with a large audience.”

The pet photo gallery also has a “share” button that lets users easily e-mail a link to their pet’s photo and insert a link into their own blog or social media Web page.
