Monster Selects Intellon HomePlug AV Technology for New Monster® Digital Express™ PowerNet™ 200

WEBWIRE

-- New home entertainment distribution set provides “Ethernet Anywhere” high definition video content distribution using home’s existing electrical wiring.

Orlando, Fla. - Intellon Corporation (Nasdaq: ITLN), a leading provider of HomePlug®-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications, announced that Monster, the world’s leading manufacturer of audio and video connectivity solutions, is embedding Intellon’s HomePlug AV-based ICs in the first of a family of products designed to distribute content from multiple sources throughout a home using the existing electrical wiring. The Monster® Digital Express™ PowerNet™ 200 provides equipment protection from surges along with noise filtration for optimal viewing and listening experiences coupled with the ease of Intellon’s “No New Wires™ powerline technology.

The PowerNet 200, introduced and demonstrated by Monster at the CEDIA Expo, is the first in a planned family of Digital Express digital connectivity solutions currently in development at Monster using HomePlug powerline networking technology. Monster’s PowerNet 200 combines Monster’s expertise in power filtration and surge protection to add value as well as enhance the speed of the powerline communication by filtering out power line noise that adversely affects the speed of data through the power pipeline.

New Over-the-Top (OTT) video sources and IP/Ethernet TV and streaming DMA devices from companies such as Netflix/Roku, Vudu, Apple TV and even gaming consoles which allow downloading of movies and video are market drivers for the new Monster solution. The industry projects that the number of movie downloads over the Internet are expected to exceed two billion per year by 2011.

“Reliable high-speed network connectivity to home entertainment equipment such as Blu-ray players, game consoles and networked A/V receivers is going to be necessary to deliver high-definition downloaded content, online gaming and personal media to every television and computer in the home,” said Noel Lee, The Head Monster. “Using the existing electrical wiring in a home to deliver these services provides the speed necessary to support multiple streams of HD content.”

“Embedding our HomePlug powerline solution in the Monster home entertainment power distribution center makes perfect sense,” said Charlie Harris, CEO and Chairman of Intellon Corporation. “It demonstrates Monster’s leadership and is further evidence that Intellon’s HomePlug solution provides the quality demanded by end users, the bandwidth to support multiple streams of HDTV and the convenience of making a network out of the existing electrical wiring in the home.”
