Parrish Medical Center Deploys Clinical Xpert Solutions From Thomson Reuters

Ann Arbor, MI — Parrish Medical Center, a 210-bed community hospital in Titusville, Florida, has implemented Clinical Xpert CareFocus™ and Clinical Xpert Navigator which are both part of the Clinical Xpert suite of workflow solutions from the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters.

These tools enable automated identification of high-risk patients within a hospital and give clinicians access to comprehensive patient information at any time via the Internet, smartphones and other mobile devices.
“Knowing that physicians and all healthcare professionals are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care, we are pleased to add these powerful new clinical workflow and decision-support solutions to our patient care toolkit,” said Dr. Lisa Alexander, vice president of medical affairs for Parrish Medical Center, which has been named America’s number one healing hospital three consecutive years. “Our clinicians now have instant access to real-time patient information to help them make important treatment decisions at the bedside.”

CareFocus, a clinical surveillance and profiling engine, allows clinicians to build clinical profiles that identify high-risk patients from the entire hospital census based on their medications, laboratory results, vital signs, diagnoses, observations, active orders, and demographics. Typical sets include, but are not limited to, profiles for identifying patients with acute myocardial infarction (with and without aspirin), influenza, C-difficile toxins, urinary tract infections, MRSA infection, and diabetes management issues. Custom profiles can be built based on the specific program and clinical needs of an individual hospital or clinician.

By identifying at-risk patients early, hospitals and clinicians can significantly improve clinical outcomes — reducing mortality, length of stay and potential costs from treating complications.

Navigator gives clinicians instant, real-time access to clinical data via mobile and Web-based devices. It consolidates data from multiple components of the hospital information system — including demographics, medications, radiology and laboratory results, transcribed reports and admission, discharge and transfer information. This ensures clinicians have access to critical patient information throughout the continuum of care.

“The Clinical Xpert CareFocus and Navigator solutions are helping Parrish Medical Center and its care partners deliver on our mission to provide healing experiences for everyone all the time,” said Dr. Alexander.

“Parrish Medical Center is realizing the benefit of providing its clinicians with anytime-anywhere access to critical patient information,” said Thomas Hegelund, executive vice president of the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters. “We look forward to working with them in their continued efforts to improve clinician workflow and provide the highest level of care to their patients.”
