CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa.- Aer Lingus has selected Rockwell Collins to provide a comprehensive suite of avionics, including MultiScan weather radar, the GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR) and a full range of communication and navigation offerings, on six Airbus A330 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2009.

“We’re excited to continue building a strong relationship with Aer Lingus,” said Jeff Standerski, vice president and general manager, Air Transport Systems for Rockwell Collins. “The avionics selected by Aer Lingus will provide commonality with their existing fleet, while providing the most advanced surveillance, communications and navigation systems for their aircraft.”

Rockwell Collins’ award-winning WXR-2100 MultiScan Hazard Detection™ System is the first and only radar that analyzes and determines actual weather hazards, not simply atmospheric moisture content. MultiScan is a fully automatic, hands-free airborne radar system with more than four years of operational experience that reduces pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters, and provides optimal clutter-free weather detection from the nose of the aircraft to 320 nautical miles.

Also chosen was the GLU-920 Multi-Mode Receiver (MMR), an integrated unit that provides the aircraft’s primary position, velocity and time reference and enables precision landing capability. The advanced MMR also offers instrument landing system capability and high-integrity, satellite-based positioning for navigation and future landing functions. The system also offers growth to support microwave landing system capabilities and is designed to meet future air traffic management requirements while offering commonality across fleet types.

Other Rockwell Collins equipment chosen by Aer Lingus includes the ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900D High Frequency System, CPL-920D Coupling Unit, VHF-920 Very High Frequency Transceiver, GNA-910 Global Navigation Antenna, LRA-900 Low-range Radio Altimeter, RAA-700, VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio receiver, and the SAT-906 Satellite Communications System.
