Eric Hibbard Appointed New International Representative for the INCITS Technical Committee on Cyber Security

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and the only provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions, today announced the appointment of Eric Hibbard to International Representative for the INCITS Technical Committee CS1, Cyber Security. The InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) is a forum for information technology developers, producers and users for the creation and maintenance of formal de jure IT standards. INCITS is accredited by, and operates under rules approved by, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). These rules are designed to ensure that voluntary standards are developed by the consensus of directly and materially affected interests.

“We are honored to have Mr. Hibbard as our International Representative for the Technical Committee CS1, Cyber Security,” said Jennifer Garner, Director of Standards Programs for INCITS. “He brings a wealth of security experience to the position and we look forward to his contributions.”

Mr. Hibbard is currently the Senior Director, Data Networking Technology, in the Office of the CTO for Hitachi Data Systems. He is responsible for developing and leading the execution of Hitachi Data Systems’ storage security strategy and serves as the company’s principle storage security architect. In his position with INCITS, Mr. Hibbard will report on the status of international work and act as a correspondent on issues with related standards groups of international, regional and foreign national organizations. Mr. Hibbard has over 25 years experience in information technology, including over 10 years in information security architecture and management, working for government, academia, and industry.

“We believe Mr. Hibbard’s appointment to the INCITS reinforces our commitment to a standards-based, integrated approach to storage security,” said Hu Yoshida, Vice President and CTO, Hitachi Data Systems. “We look forward to Mr. Hibbard’s participation in this technology consortium to enhance our development of the feature-rich data protection and advanced data security capabilities of our storage solutions.”

Hitachi Data Systems provides comprehensive, built-in storage security functionality that meet customers’ escalating needs of data protection and security for regulatory compliance. The ground-breaking Hitachi USP V storage services platform offers the ability to isolate and “fence off” high-security applications at all points in the storage hierarchy from channel, to cache, to storage devices. These sophisticated security features include controller-based Data Shredding, LUN Security for LUN-level access control to world wide names (WWN), Write Once Read Many (WORM) software for tamperproof long-term data retention, Role-Based Access, an Audit Log file which stores a history of all user access operations performed on the system, and Fibre Channel Secure Protocol Authorization A (FC-SP Auth A) for the authentication of Fibre Channel entities, as well as support for encryption appliances. Together, these technologies provide robust authentication, authorization and audit capabilities to the entire enterprise storage portfolio to further secure the overall foundation of customers’ storage infrastructures.

“It is an honor for me to have been selected for this position with INCITS,” said Eric Hibbard, Senior Director, Data Networking Technology, Hitachi Data Systems. “I take this responsibility seriously and I feel that my experience with information security architecture and management will be a valuable asset in my success as International Representative for INCITS.”

Mr. Hibbard currently holds multiple security (CISSP, ISSAP, ISSMP, ISSEP), information system auditor (CISA), and storage (SCP and SCSE) certifications as well as being involved in the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), IEEE-USA Critical Infrastructure Protection Committee, and the Information Security Committee of the American Bar Association.
