FALLS CHURCH, Va.- CSC (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it is part of a team led by Diversified Global Partners, LLC, that has been awarded a contract to develop and maintain the Comprehensive Large Array-data Stewardship System (CLASS), a secure and evolutionary environmental data storage and distribution system, for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Under the terms of the agreement, CSC will process and store critical environmental and climate data, and make it available to the public. By working with NOAA to re-engineer, modernize and enhance the current suite of national environmental archive and access services, CSC will help manage a large volume of environmental data and information, including hundreds of millions of environmental observations stored in a variety of media dating back to the mid-1980s.

“As one of the original developers of CLASS, we are pleased to expand our relationship with NOAA to better service the current and future environmental needs of the United States,” said Tom Anderson, president of CSC’s North American Public Sector Civil Division. “We are proud to be a member of the team selected by NOAA to help with its mission-critical goal for long-term archiving of the nation’s environmental and climate data.”

CLASS is the premier online facility for the distribution of NOAA and the U.S. Department of Defense operational environmental satellite data (geostationary and polar) and derived data products. The system provides capabilities for finding and obtaining data that is essential to understanding climate changes.
