Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) today announced a $10,000 grant to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado (BBBS) through a run-batted-in (RBI) contest with Matt Holliday, all-star left fielder for the Colorado Rockies.
Holliday has served as a spokesperson for Qwest to showcase the company’s communications and entertainment services and community efforts in Colorado since April.
“Qwest’s presence in the community is an inspiration to all of us. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the company better and appreciate their support as a key employer in Colorado,” Holliday said.
Beginning April 4, for every RBI Holliday hit during the regular season, Qwest pledged to donate $100 to BBBS, up to $10,000. The donation will help fund BBBS mentoring programs. Holliday also appeared in select Qwest advertising.
“We are proud to have Matt Holliday as part of the Qwest team through the RBI challenge,” said Chuck Ward, Qwest’s president for Colorado. “The Qwest Foundation is committed to supporting education initiatives in the community, and partnering with our favorite ball player this year has really resulted in a home run for BBBS.”
“We can’t thank Qwest and Matt enough for showing us true team spirit,” said Dave DeForest-Stalls of BBBS. “Our program’s youth will truly benefit from their partnership and for that, we are most grateful.”
