WEBWIRE

MINNETONKA, Minn. – UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) today announced the results of its 2009 bid process for Part D prescription drug plans (PDPs) for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). Ovations, UnitedHealth Group’s seniors’ health and well-being company, will provide services to qualifying, low-income members in 25 regions, including eight new regions, in 2009.

“We are privileged to continue to serve our existing regions and to gain the opportunity to expand services to qualifying seniors in new regions for 2009,” said Simon Stevens, CEO of Ovations. “We have been a strong participant in Part D since its start in 2006, and are committed to providing excellent service and overall value to American seniors.”

Existing qualifying members’ drug coverage will continue without disruption and new, qualifying seniors will benefit from a large and stable drug list and an extensive pharmacy network.

Ovations will be able to estimate the number of additional qualifying seniors it will serve after receiving formal reassignment notification from CMS later this year.

Ovations is the nation’s largest provider of standalone Medicare Part D prescription drug plans (PDPs), serving more Medicare beneficiaries than any other plan sponsor, with plans available in all 34 regions and all U.S. territories.
