MINNETONKA, Minn. (July 2008) - Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII) today introduced the Digi Connect® N2S-170, a card-based Ethernet networking controller that provides reliable network connectivity for Model 170 traffic controller equipment. Model 170 traffic controllers are used throughout the U.S. for numerous traffic management applications including ramp metering, traffic signal control and within variable message signs. The Digi Connect N2S-170 is a cost-effective alternative to a forklift upgrade to expensive Model 2070 equipment which can cost up to eight times more than the Digi Connect N2S-170. The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) recently upgraded its Model 170 controllers in District Three using the Digi Connect N2S-170.

“The Digi Connect N2S-170 allowed us to move away from analog leased lines which are older, slower and not well supported,” said Brian Simi, Chief Electrical Systems Engineer, Caltrans. “We simply plugged it in, and our controllers were IP enabled. This allowed us to replace older analog bridges which are becoming obsolete with Ethernet hubs providing immediate high-speed connectivity to the Caltrans network.”

The Digi Connect N2S-170 offers secure and reliable serial-to-Ethernet connectivity for Model 170 traffic signal controller equipment allowing customers to easily extend the life of existing traffic controllers. It is also Model 400 modem card-compatible for easy deployment. Because it is card based, it integrates into the controller and is therefore more reliable and takes up less space than an external solution. It features an industrial operating temperature range of -40° C to 85° C, a Web interface for easy configuration and a robust TCP/IP stack with universal IP address assignment capabilities. It includes enhanced security options based on SSL/TLS and SSH with NIST-certified encryption and intelligent device management capabilities. It also supports Digi’s patented RealPort® COM/TTY port redirection and provides custom Java applet support.

The Digi Connect N2S-170 is available now for $342 MSRP direct from Digi and through Digi’s distributor network. For more information, visit http://www.digi.com/products/serialservers/digiconnectn2s170.jsp.
