New World Flags and Flag Pictures Database Web Site Launched

WEBWIRE

New York, NY June 30, 2008 - In an effort to help educate web citizens about the multitude of country flags around the world and the many U.S. state flags, a new world flags database web site has been launched. The site, located at www.BannersOfTheWorld.com, aims to provide visitors with a country’s or state’s brief history, statistical information, and also includes updated flag pictures.

The study of flags and emblems, or Vexillology as it is known, may not be the most well known of scientific studies, but it certainly has it followers. Although a brief search on a search engine only returns about 60,000 or so results, there a quite a few organizations that are committed to vexillological research. BannersOfTheWorld.com, however, is not exclusively a vexillological site.

The site’s owner, Jay Garces Jr., says, “I really didn’t want the site to be solely about vexillology. What I wanted was a site where a visitor could quickly and easily find information about a country, its flag and other pertinent information. I’m a history buff, so I wanted to at least include brief historical information about a given country. In addition, though there are already tons of sites on the net that provide this kind of information, I’ve found they have so much information on a page that it makes it difficult for a person find what they’re looking for. Banner of the World, on the other hand, compacts all that information and makes it quick and easy for a visitor to find what they need.”

Sorting through large amounts of data to find information such as a country’s population or economic information is typically no easy task. In response to this, Banners of the World features a site search engine that allows visitors to enter keywords into a field and search for the data they’re looking for. The site also features a browsable index of all the world and U.S. flags currently listed.

Jay says, “Again, I wanted the site to be quick and easy to use - so I made sure to include a site search feature in addition to standard navigation links.”

As the Internet continues to grow more of an emphasis will need to be placed on cataloging useful and accurate information while aiming to keep a web user from getting information overload. BannersOfTheWorld.com seems to be already moving in that direction.
