Xerox Provides Support for 2008 Democratic National Convention Host Committee
Eco-friendly technology powers eco-responsible event
DENVER.- The Denver 2008 Convention Host Committee announced Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) will provide printing services for the Democratic National Convention, taking place Aug. 25-28. As the preferred provider of document services for the Host Committee, Xerox will use energy-efficient equipment, recycled paper and eco-friendly ink cartridges to manage printing during the convention.
"At the convention, electing a candidate for the general election takes prose and poise, but also prints. Xerox’s role will be documenting history in the making" said Doug Lord, president of Xerox’s United States Solutions Group. "We’re printing in a way that supports the environmental commitment of the party and demonstrates our rich heritage of environmental sustainability"
Aligning business innovation with environmental responsibility, Xerox’s short-term rental and event services will provide digital printers, multifunction systems and High Yield Business Paper™ that support the Host Committee’s commitment to green technology.
The convention will run Xerox 4110™ copiers/printers and WorkCentre® 7655 color multifunction systems using Xerox’s Emulsion Aggregation toner. As a result, the amount of toner needed is significantly reduced, as nearly 100 percent of the product transfers to the paper. That translates into cost savings and reduced waste. The systems are ENERGY STAR® compliant and allow for duplex printing, which reduces the amount of paper needed for print or copy jobs.
Xerox is also providing its High Yield Business Paper with the digital devices, which is made through a "greener" process than standard paper. For example, High Yield Business Paper uses 90 percent of the tree versus only 45 percent used to create traditional digital printing paper. It also requires less water and chemicals and is produced in a plant using hydroelectricity to partially power the pulping process. This process reduces fossil fuel use and up to 75 percent of greenhouse gas emissions.
"We couldn’t host events of this magnitude without the assistance of corporations like Xerox" said Elbra Wedgeworth, president of the Denver Host Committee. "Xerox brings to the convention what it has been delivering to the city of Denver for years as its document management provider - innovation that minimizes the impact on the environment and high-quality products and services"
In addition, Let’s Say Thanks® - a Xerox-sponsored program aimed at saying "thank you" to U.S. troops serving overseas - will hold card drives to let attendees send messages of support to America’s servicemen and women. Thousands of postcards designed by Denver-area children will be printed on a Xerox iGen3® Digital Production Press, signed by hand, and then shipped overseas.
Xerox has had a role in supporting both the Democratic and Republican conventions with services, equipment and supplies since 1988.
