Petrobras has been granted the Gold Quill award by the International Awards of Business Communications (IABC) as one of the companies that stood out the most in corporate communications in 2007. This is the first time the Company is bestowed this distinction from this prestigious American corporate communication institution, which has upwards of 15,000 professionals from 70 countries in its membership chart. It is also the only Brazilian company awarded in this edition.

Petrobras won in the Outdoor 3D category, with the “Biking for Energy” case, ed from among more than 1,040 cases from 30 countries that were entered, among which cases from Australia, Belgium, Argentina, Canada, China, France, the United States, Italy, Saudi Arabia, and England. The campaign was carried out during the Rio de Janeiro Pan-American Games, in 2007. During the event, which was sponsored by Petrobras, cyclers rode on the city’s bicycle lanes at night divulging the company’s brand with lights and special visual effects. Part of the power used to light the panels was generated by dynamos installed in the bikes’ pedals.

“It was very rewarding for Petrobras to get international acknowledgement for this action, which was part of a large integrated communication project the Company developed and which has already won the Marketing Best and the Marketing Highlight Award from the ABMN (the Brazilian Marketing & Business Association). This proves the standard of international excellence of our actions,” said Diego Pila, Promotions & Merchandising Coordinator for Petrobras.

IABC’s Gold Quill award has been a global reference in the acknowledgement of excellence in corporate communications for 35 years. The winners represent the best of the segment and are picked after two strict evaluations performed by a group of communication professionals from several parts of the world. The awarding ceremony will be held on June 23, during the IABC’s international Conference, in New York.
