Enables further integration with EMC EmailXtender, solidifying management and compliance for electronic communications archiving

San Diego, CA - June 17, 2008 - Akonix Systems, Inc., the leading provider of unified policy and risk management solutions for real-time communications, today announced it has joined the EMC Velocity2 Technology and ISV Partner Program. This will enable greater interoperability between EMC EmailXtender and Akonix L7 Enterprise(tm), which offers unified policy management, security and archiving for public and enterprise instant messaging (IM), as well as online conferencing, VoIP and electronic faxing.

As an EMC partner, Akonix provides integrated injection of IM and multi-party chat conversations, incoming and outgoing server-based faxes, conferencing and VoIP events, and BlackBerry text messages into EmailXtender email archives. The integrated solution enables customers to leverage a single platform for storage, search and retrieval of email, IM and unified communications, creating and unifying a single point of access, control and management for all archived electronic messaging.

Akonix will create an API-level integration between Akonix L7 Enterprise and the EMC EmailXtender and Documentum platforms and applications. This combined offering enables organizations to benefit from efficient, secure archiving and management of electronic communications, unified policy management for lowest cost of compliance and secure content archiving for meeting non-spoliation, non-repudiation and records retention regulations.

“EMC is pleased that Akonix has joined the EMC Velocity2 Technology and ISV Program to demonstrate its commitment to excellence in enterprise content management and archive application design for the L7 Enterprise product,” said Barry Ruditsky, vice president of OEM Sales and ISV Business Development, Content Management & Archiving, EMC Corporation. “We look forward to working with Akonix to ensure that our mutual customers have the highest level of support possible for their information infrastructure initiatives.”

Although it is imperative for organizations across all industries to archive electronic communications due to laws, regulations and records retention policies, only a small percentage of American businesses have put technology in place for capturing and storing real-time communications like IM and multi-party chat. According to the Enterprise Strategy Group, message archiving is often mismanaged or completely absent, and many organizations archive email but ignore IM (1). Additionally, the Info-Tech Research Group states that only 20 percent of businesses currently have an email archiving solution in place, The firm also discovered that by adopting effective email archiving solutions, companies were able to mitigate risk and demonstrated up to $100,000 savings per year in reduced labor and contained legal costs (2).

“The courts and legislative bodies are starting to request transcripts originating from many types of electronic messaging, such as VoIP, group chat and computer-based faxes, in addition to email and IM. Archiving and further managing an increasing number of messaging formats is becoming a huge challenge for businesses,” said Maurene Caplan Grey, founder and principal analyst of Grey Consulting. “As an EMC partner, Akonix is helping to address the storage pains that organizations experience due to having multiple modalities of electronic messaging implemented in the workplace.”

Akonix’s L7 Enterprise Unified Policy Management platform applies and enforces policy for archiving by allowing administrators to decide which messages must be saved or discarded. To archive IM and unified communications content, L7 Enterprise converts conversations into a format that EmailXtender uses for securely and cost effectively storing electronic communcations records, futher ensuring that timestamps, usernames and formatting are preserved in the company’s electronic archives.

“As an IT and infrastructure management leader, we are excited to partner with EMC to offer our customers a simplified process when it comes to storing and archiving their employees’ electronic communications,” said Don Montgomery, VP of marketing at Akonix. “We look forward to working further with EMC to develop and offer a continuously improving range of products to meet the needs of both our customers and resellers.”

Akonix L7 Enterprise is factory configured on Akonix’s A1000(tm), A1000 IM Essentials(tm) and A6000(tm) appliances.
