For providing outstanding employment services to veterans, Union Pacific was named Employer of the Year by the California Employer Advisory Council (CEAC), a nonprofit organization that works with the Employment Development Department to improve the quality of California’s employment services.

The annual selection dates back to 1984. Employers are nominated in three categories: Private Small Business, Private Large Business and Government/Public Service. UP was honored in the Private Large Business category, along with AlliedBarton, Cintas and Northrop Grumman.

“California has more than one million large businesses,” said Dr. Cal Farmer, chairman of CEAC’s Veterans Committee. “We had great candidates, and with this honor UP has joined a very prestigious club.”

Union Pacific was selected for its leave and reemployment policies for veterans, reservists, National Guard members and others in the uniformed services; participation in military and veteran job fairs; posting on CalJobs, and the hiring of veterans.

Union Pacific is proud of its outreach to military personnel, having been named one of the nation’s top military-friendly employers by G.I. Jobs magazine four years running. Additionally, UP is an active participant in the Army PaYS (Partnership for Youth Success) program, and has received recognition from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) organization and the Marine Civilian Development Program.
