Stray Electricity Killed Family Farm Cattle

WEBWIRE

(DEPERE, WI)—The effects of stray electrical current on farms, livestock and human health is deadly. In recent years, stray electricity lawsuits have rocked Wisconsin courts, lead by angry dairy farmers throughout the state.

Russ Allen, heir to the Allen Dairy Farm and author of the new book Electrocution of America: Is Your Utility Company Out to Kill You?, discovered that stray currents were the cause behind his dairy farm’s declining milk production, and the mysterious illnesses and deaths that plagued his cows.

“The Allen Farm was founded by my father in 1937,” says Mr. Allen. “At its high point, it was one of the largest in Wisconsin, with over 550 heads of cattle. Too many farmers have lost what they’ve worked for because of a lack of action on the government’s part. For some reason, the people in power just don’t want to rectify the ongoing problem of stray electricity.”

Absorption of electrical current by animals can have serious effects on their lifestyle and immunity. For example, if a calf is born where electrical current is flowing, her lifetime production capacity will be greatly impaired. Should she develop pneumonia after birth—common after electrical poisoning—she will be scarred for life or grow sick and die.

“It took years to understand what was occurring to my farm and why,” says Mr. Allen. “In the meantime, we nearly went crazy and bankrupt. The animals’ sickness was insidious and gradual—a creeping menace.”

In his important book, Electrocution of America: Is Your Utility Company Out to Kill You?, Mr. Allen discusses the devastating effects that stray electrical currents had on his cows:
• Mental and behavioral problems
• Sore hooves
• Diminished appetites
• Dehydration due to electric shock in the troughs
• Panic near the metal milking parlor
• Delivering sickly newborn calves
• High rate of abortion

“I spent years in court with the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation,” says Mr. Allen. “When the utility refused to mitigate the damages, I gambled my last financial reserves in an attempt for justice.”

Russ Allen lives outside of Green Bay, Wisconsin. He is a leader in the movement against the electrical pollution of animals.
