Paris, May 2008 – Starting this weekthrough June 6, 2008, Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) employees around the world will volunteer in their communities as part of the company’s first “International Days of Caring” (IDOC) event. Sponsored by the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation, IDOC is the company’s signature volunteer initiative.

“The International Days of Caring program underscores one of the Alcatel-Lucent key values - our commitment to social responsibility. It also celebrates the generosity and spirit of our people as they live this value through their actions as well as their words,” said Patricia Russo, Alcatel-Lucent chief executive officer.

Teams of volunteers from virtually all of the company’s global locations will engage in such activities as cleaning up a therapeutic riding center in Oldwick, N.J., wrapping gifts in two department stores in France to benefit Le Rire Médecin (organization that provides clowns to cheer up hospitalized children), participating in a two-day biking event to help raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of South Florida, producing environmentally friendly bags with the Alcatel-Lucent logo in China to replace banned plastic bags at supermarkets and stores, and supporting the Ottawa, Canada, International Children’s Festival May 28 – June 1 by serving as greeters and stage workers.

“The first Alcatel-Lucent International Days of Caring event is a milestone for our company and for the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation,” said Beatrice Tassot, executive director of the Alcatel-Lucent Foundation. “The people of this company want to give back to their communities, and by working together on projects around the world we believe we can make a difference that will go beyond the days of caring. We have already arranged for a wide variety of projects but the innovation of our people is coming through as they suggest and organize additional events.”

Alcatel-Lucent employees will register online to sign up for a project or they can initiate volunteering projects of their own. The company has approximately 77,000 employees in 130 countries around the world.
