£41.5 million, eight-year deal with BT to unify Scottish Water’s communications infrastructure under one managed contract

Scottish Water and BT today announced a major contract to bring together all of Scottish Water’s communications infrastructure under one managed contract with BT.

The deal, worth £41.5 million over eight years, will enable Scottish Water to consolidate its entire data and phone network, including mobile communication, voice, wide area network (WAN), local area network (LAN), hosted voice and firewall security – currently provided by a number of suppliers – as part of the organisation’s ambitious drive to reduce IT costs and deliver improved services.

At the same time, Scottish Water has appointed two other major suppliers – Tata Consultancy Services and Fujitsu - to provide applications support and infrastructure services respectively.

This collaborative approach brings together the combined capabilities of three innovative global players all working together to deliver estimated initial savings of £8 million.

Mark Quartermaine, managing director public sector, BT Global Services UK, said: “We are delighted to have secured this deal. Scottish Water is demonstrating real ambition in how it wishes to transform the way in which it delivers services to its customers. Their multi-vendor service delivery model enables Scottish Water to retain overall programme control and manage risk by appointing blue chip organisations with global reputations for excellence in their specialist areas. We look forward to working with Scottish Water and its partners to transform its communications network and make it a world-class platform to deliver new services.”

Commenting on the deal, David Brown, Scottish Water’s General Manager for IT, said: “This announcement is the culmination of a great deal of hard work from both the suppliers and Scottish Water. It is a rounded package of benefits that delivers significant cost savings, an enhanced service and the opportunity to exploit the extensive development capabilities of some of the most innovative companies in the business. We are delighted with the outcome and are greatly looking forward to bringing it all to life.”
