Tyco Electronics To Demo SFP+ and Z-PACK TinMan Product at Ethernet Alliance Interop 2008

WEBWIRE

HARRISBURG, Pa. - April 2008 - Tyco Electronics will be participating at the Ethernet Alliance Interop this week in Las Vegas, demonstrating two of its newest products, SFP+ and Z-PACK TinMan connectors in the Ethernet Alliance booth #1567.
SFP+ (SFF-8431): Tyco Electronics will be demonstrating cables in this set up:

10 Gb/s in an enhanced SFP form factor and video exchange between remote PCs through multiple SFP+ / PHY links

Tyco Electronics has released its SFP+ product family, which extends the use of the Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) interconnect up to 10 Gb/s. This system meets the performance requirements of SFF (Small Form Factor) specification SFF-8431 and supports 8G Fibre Channel and 10G Ethernet applications. The SFP+ product family includes cages, connectors, and copper cable assemblies. Copper cables provide a cost-effective solution for short reach applications. Active and passive equalization are offered, with a simple pull-to-release latch mechanism. The plug features comply with SFF-8432, which defines the pluggable module for SFP+.
Backplane Ethernet (IEEE Std. 802.3ap™ - 2007): Tyco Electronics will be demonstrating the Z-PACK TinMan connector system in this set up:

Supporting error-free 10 GB/s data traffic driven by 10GBASE-KR PHY devices.

Tyco Electronics’ new Z-PACK TinMan backplane connector is a cost-effective solution for system designers searching for a high-density, high-performance backplane interconnect system capable of operating at 10 to 12.5 Gb/s. The connector has successfully demonstrated 10 gigabit data streams performance across the backplane compliant to 10GBASE-KR electrical requirements. The connector system is ideally suited to board-to-board interconnect needs of today’s demanding applications in switches, servers/blade servers, routers and storage equipment. The connector design follows industry backplane convention by offering a fully protected right-angle receptacle for daughtercards where handling damage can be a concern when mating to a vertical male header. This connector configuration permits field repair at either the module or single pin levels.
