UT Houston Celebrates Six Commencement Ceremonies in May

HOUSTON—(April 2008)—Hundreds of students at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston will receive degrees in May during commencement ceremonies hosted by each of the university’s six schools.

Graduation for students at The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences at Houston will be 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 1 in the Beth Robertson Auditorium of the Fayez S. Sarofim Research Building, 1825 Pressler St. Michael Shabot, M.D., system chief medical officer at Memorial Hermann Healthcare System and adjunct professor at the UT School of Health Information Sciences, will be the speaker.

Commencement ceremonies for about 75 students at The University of Texas School of Public Health will be at 2 p.m. May 2 at the Texas Medical Center’s Edwin Hornberger Conference Center, 2151 W. Holcombe Blvd. Kenneth I. Shine, M.D., The University of Texas System’s executive vice chancellor for health affairs who will become chancellor ad interim on May 1, will be the speaker.

The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston will hold graduation at 10 a.m. May 3 at the Hornberger Conference Center. Gail Cassell, Ph.D., vice president for Scientific Affairs and Distinguished Lilly Research Scholar for Infectious Diseases, Eli Lilly & Company, will give the commencement address.

Graduation for more than 270 students at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing will be at 7 p.m. May 9 at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas. Dan Wilford, former president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, will be the speaker.

More than 140 students will receive degrees during The University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston’s commencement ceremony at 4 p.m. May 22 in the Cullen Performance Hall at the University of Houston. The speaker will be John S. Findley, DDS, president-elect of the American Dental Association.

Almost 200 students at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston will receive degrees at 10 a.m. May 31 in the Assembly Hall at the George R. Brown Convention Center. James “Red” Duke, M.D., holder of the John B. Holmes Professorship in the Clinical Sciences at the UT Medical School and medical director of Life Flight at Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center, will be the speaker.
