ANN ARBOR, Mich.— Borders, Inc., a worldwide retailer of books, music, movies, gifts and stationery items, will open a new store in the JetBlue Airways Terminal 5 of the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The 1,734-square-foot store will open in September.

Committed to engaging customers with a rich shopping experience that meets their needs, the new Borders airport store will feature bestsellers and key titles for leisure and business travelers. The store will offer over 8,000 book titles, including audio books, a Paperchase® gift and stationery shop, and top selling DVD and CD titles in an award-winning retail format.

“We are excited to open our new airport store for the residents and visitors of New York at John F. Kennedy International Airport,” said Susan Zewicke, vice president operations for Borders Group, Inc. “Committed to connecting readers with books, we offer our customers the most relevant assortment and provide travelers with a convenient place to discover a new author or pick up the latest bestseller.”

This is the fifth airport store Borders operates in the New York area including three stores in Newark Liberty Airport and one in LaGuardia Airport. Borders also operates stores in airports located in Detroit, Baltimore, Phoenix, Orlando, Seattle, Boston, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, North Carolina, and Washington, D.C.

This year, Borders has been awarded the “Best Specialty Retail Brand Operator” and “Retailer with Highest Regard for Customer Services” by “Airport Revenue News” (ARN), a leading publication for airport executives, concessionaires and others involved in the aviation industry. Previously, Borders was awarded the “Best Retail Specialty Brand Operator” prize in 2006, and in 2005, second place for “Best Airport Retailer” and “Retailer with the Highest Regard for Customer Service.” In 2004, the Borders airport store division was named “Best Retail Specialty Brand Operator,” and in 2003, ARN recognized Borders as the “2003 Best New Specialty Retail Concept,” almost immediately after the first Borders-branded airport store opened in 2002. The ARN awards are the most prestigious in the industry with approximately 3,000 airport executives, consultants and concessionaires along with an independent panel of judges nominating and selecting airport retailers for the awards.
