Harris Corporation’s QUIC Media Analysis Server Supports Automated Quality Control in New Tapeless Workflow at Fox Channels Italy

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has installed a new media analysis server to support Fox Channels Italy’s broadcast operations in Rome.

Harris Corporation’s Videotek® QUIC™ media analysis server supports automated quality control in the new tapeless workflow that Fox Channels Italy implemented during its recent addition of a new service — NatGeo Music, a 24-hour music channel available on the Sky Italia satellite platform. At Fox Channels Italy, content is ingested and processed, local branding is added and trailers and promos are created. Content is delivered over an IP circuit to Sky for transmission. The QUIC™ media analysis server provides Fox with an efficient, consistent and cost-effective method of analyzing a long list of QC parameters before the content is distributed.

“Fox Channels Italy needed to automate its QC process as it was very time consuming for technicians to check every frame of content in real time — and this was causing a bottleneck in workflow,” said Claudio Piacentini of Allyn srl, a dealer in Italy. “Because they wanted to keep everything in the file-based domain from the moment of ingest and use the metadata to track content, we suggested that QUIC™ would offer the time efficiencies and cost-effective solution the company needed.”

QUIC™ is a fully automated, file-based test and measurement server platform that verifies the quality of compressed digital content. High-definition content is inspected at twice real-time speed — cutting testing time in half. Standard-definition content is tested even more quickly — up to five times faster than real time. This enables greatly increased throughput compared to any traditional QC method, allowing more content to be inspected each day. The scalable QUIC™ system can also be extended with slave analysis hardware frames to further increase analysis speeds.
