Business maintenance, plant engineers and safety workers encouraged to attend

Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), an Alliant Energy company, is organizing an electrical safety training course in Dubuque designed to inform and educate employees on safety rules, safety equipment requirements and prevention strategies. Alliant Energy Power University is offering the instruction to help Dubuque area businesses protect their workforce from electrical hazards.

“Employees of commercial and industrial companies are exposed to the dangers of electricity everyday as they do their jobs,” said Tim Bren, IPL Power Quality Engineer and course instructor. “Yet many may not know how to work safely to prevent accidents. With electrical safety training and better risk awareness, businesses can reduce their workers exposure to hazards and keep them from unnecessary injury.”

The Electrical Safety training class from Alliant Energy Power University will be held on Thursday, April 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Topics that will be covered include OSHA safety codes, electrical hazards, safety work practices, personal protective equipment and an overview of NFPA 70E: standards for electrical safety in the workplace.

Upon finishing the four-hour course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion and take-home reference materials. The cost of the class is $250 with a group discount available to businesses that send five or more employees to take the training. To obtain a registration form, please visit www.alliantenergy.com/training and click on the link “safety classes” or call 1-800-373-1303, extension 786-4320. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register by March 27.
