Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded the “SAM Silver Class” Sustainability Distinction

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has been selected for its achievements in sustainability and listed “SAM Silver Class” in the Sustainability Yearbook 2008. Each year, the 2500 largest companies in the world, as reflected in the Dow Jones Global Index, are eligible to participate in SAM’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment. Only the top-scoring 15% of those companies in each of the 57 sectors, assessed by SAM, are included in the Sustainability Yearbook.

Alcatel-Lucent has been awarded “SAM Silver Class” in the Communication Technology Sector in SAM’s classification of leading companies.

In this sector, Alcatel-Lucent has been assessed according to the following criteria specific to its sector:

* economic dimension: brand management, customer relationship management, privacy protection, supply chain management
* environmental dimension: electro magnetic fields, environmental policy/management system, product stewardship
* social dimension: digital inclusion, stakeholder engagement, standards for suppliers.



This prestigious distinction is further recognition of Alcatel-Lucent’s long-standing commitment regarding sustainable development.
