Ricoh’s Globalscan 3.0 Document Capture And Routing System Recives Five Star Rating From Buyers Laboratory Inc.

Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that its document capture and routing system, GlobalScan™ 3.0, has received a “Five Star” overall rating from Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI), the leading global provider of critical test reports on document imaging products. Designed to quickly scan documents in paper-intensive environments, GlobalScan 3.0 received the highest possible rating from BLI due to its advanced features and its ability to streamline workflow and enhance productivity in organizations.

In the comprehensive evaluation performed by BLI, GlobalScan scored extremely well in the ease of use, documentation and security categories. With an intuitive graphical interface users can easily scan and route documents to their intended destinations. Moreover, administrators can effortlessly distribute electronic files with “one touch” scanning, which allows them to automatically preset scanning to route files to any folder or e-mail address with the press of a button. Additional features BLI pointed that support ease of use included improved optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities, which enables users to easily convert hardcopy documents into a number of electronic formats, as well as a feature to personalize messages by entering a message within the e-mail body so users can share special instructions or other important details with recipients when sending electronic files.

GlobalScan’s setup is straightforward, providing administrators with fast and simple installation. Once the GlobalScan server software is installed, applications are automatically loaded on the server and administrators can perform the installation remotely. Furthermore, the GlobalScan server automatically detects data folders in the back-end applications and public folders on the local area network (LAN). This eliminates the time-consuming process of linking each folder on the network to each device, improving efficiency and lowering costs. In addition, BLI noted that GlobalScan has superior documentation, offering easy-to-follow guides that are written for readers with no prior knowledge of the solution. The User’s Guide, Server Software Installation Guide and Administrator’s Guide all offer step-by-step directions supported by a variety of screen shots, charts and tables to further enhance ease of use.

BLI’s report also cited exceptional security features that make GlobalScan 3.0 particularly ideal for any organization that handles confidential data, specifically government agencies with strict regulations. A key differentiator is GlobalScan’s authentication scheme, which allows users to set-up a single sign-on (SSO) or separate login for the system’s various components depending on the need. In addition, BLI touted that the system offers 128-bit data encryption to ensure secure communication through the channel including the MFP, GlobalScan server and most destinations. By eliminating the need to encrypt information at the desktop, it is easier for organizations to comply with government regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPPA. To further increase document security a password can be enabled to make any files that reach unintended recipients unreadable and password-protected.
