OhioHealth Named to FORTUNE Magazine’s List of "100 Best Companies to Work For" for Second Straight Year

WEBWIRE

COLUMBUS , Ohio – OhioHealth announced today that it has been named one of the country’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” by FORTUNE magazine for 2008. This is the second year in a row that OhioHealth has earned the award, ranking #18 this year, up from #52 last year.

OhioHealth was the highest ranked company in Ohio and the second highest ranked healthcare company in the nation.

“We are again honored by FORTUNE’s recognition of OhioHealth as one of the best places to work,” said Dave Blom, president and CEO of OhioHealth. “It is an affirmation that, together, we have built a strong culture and a healthy work environment that ultimately results in better care for our patients. It is a tribute to our people – nurses, physicians, staff and volunteers – to have their work validated by a third party through such a rigorous process. Together, we can take great pride in the work of our associates and all our roles in achieving this award.”

“Every one of our associates contributes to make OhioHealth a great place to work,” said Debra Plousha Moore, senior vice president of Human Resources and Organizational Development. “By sharing their talents and skills and modeling the OhioHealth values of compassion, excellence, integrity and stewardship with patients, families and each other, we have created a culture of overall associate satisfaction and engagement throughout the OhioHealth organization. Ultimately, that translates to compassionate and extraordinary patient care and that is the true bottom line for us.”

How They Pick the 100 Best:

To choose the 100 Best Companies to Work For, out of the 1,500 plus that submit applications, FORTUNE and its research partner, Great Place to Work® Institute, conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America . More than 105,000 employees from 446 companies responded to a 57-question survey created by Great Place to Work Institute®.

Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the survey, which is sent to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees from each company and asks about things such as attitudes toward management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie.

The remaining third of the score comes from the evaluation of each company’s responses to the institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about demographic makeup, pay, and benefits programs, and open-ended questions about the company’s people-management philosophy, internal communications, opportunities, compensation practices, diversity programs, etc.
