Under the AgfaPhoto brand, Sagem Communications leverages Freescale’s i.MX31 applications processor to deliver exceptional image quality and user friendly photo sharing capabilities

LAS VEGAS (Consumer Electronics Show).– Sagem Communications (SAFRAN Group) and Freescale Semiconductor today announced the deployment of the new AgfaPhoto AF5080W digital photoframe, the latest product from their broad collaboration based on Freescale’s i.MX multimedia processors and Linux® multimedia applications.

The AgfaPhoto AF5080W is a stylish new concept for digital photoframes. Its 8” high-resolution SVGA display (800x600 pixels) provides a superb visual experience that photo-savvy consumers will appreciate. The product ships with advanced remote control capabilities and is delivered in a form factor that combines stability and aesthetic appeal.

Freescale’s i.MX31 multimedia applications processor embedded in the AF5080W drives an intuitive and rich graphical user interface. High resolution photos, music and videos can be loaded to the photoframe via USB cable, USB key, WiFi connections or high-capacity SD cards up to 16GB. Photos of various formats (JPEG, GIF, PNG, WMF, etc.) can be viewed with multiple animation options. Video formats from the latest reflex digital cameras can be played back (MJPEG, MPEG4, H.264 and more), and simultaneous play of music files (MP3 and AAC) provides a captivating photo viewing experience.

A high-speed WiFi connection allows for seamless access to popular online photo Websites and other Internet resources. It also enables software upgrades to add functional enhancements and multiply the multimedia formats supported by the photoframe.

Beyond delivering an exceptional photo viewing experience, the AF5080W is packed with multimedia functionality uniquely enabled by Sagem Communications’ engineering expertise, Freescale’s comprehensive Linux environment and the powerful i.MX31 processor. For example, the AF5080W can play back MPEG2/MPEG1 videos from a set top box.

“The AF5080W photoframe represents an important achievement derived from our strategic collaboration with Freescale,” said Patrick Sevian, CEO of Sagem Communications. “The maturity of the i.MX31 multimedia processor and its Linux environment shortened development cycles and enabled creation of a decidedly differentiated product.”

The i.MX31 processor is a highly integrated and innovative multimedia engine based on an ARM11™ core running at 532 MHz. It features an advanced image and video processing unit designed to deliver an impressive viewing experience, a large set of connectivity interfaces and an optional 2D and 3D graphics accelerator.

“The ingenuity and fresh product designs of our customers never cease to amaze us, and Sagem’s AF5080W digital photoframe is the latest example,” said Paul Marino, general manager of Freescale’s Multimedia Applications Division. “Sagem’s engineers capitalized on the broad range of multimedia and connectivity options delivered by our i.MX31 processor and the result is a truly remarkable product.”
