AT&T Delivers $148 Million in Communications Services to the State of Alabama

WEBWIRE

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced a contract with the state of Alabama for $148 million over five years, including a renewable option after the first three years. According to the contract, AT&T will provide all local and long distance voice services and Internet, broadband and data-transport services.

The AT&T solution will provide the state of Alabama with the latest communications and data-transport technology, which will allow all state agencies, universities, community colleges, K-12 schools and libraries in Alabama to leverage advanced data applications and greater bandwidth utilization for critical public needs. All statewide government locations will benefit from the new communications contract and upgrade.

AT&T already provides the state of Alabama with extensive wireless services under an existing contract. The new contract of bundled communications services will enhance both efficiency and productivity by consolidating and converging networks to carry all types of traffic reliably across the state. The Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-enabled platform will allow the state of Alabama to run all state applications over a single network facility without requiring multiple connections.

“By consolidating all of our legacy services under AT&T, this contract will provide more efficient statewide telecommunications services for all state agencies,” said Jim Burns, chief information officer for the state of Alabama. “The newer technology and services will also make broadband service, in particular, more available and economical.”

The overall savings to the state of Alabama in communications spending could reach $7 million over the next five years.
