Symantec Announces General Availability of Vontu 8

Vontu 8 delivers Data Loss Prevention across endpoint, network and storage systems

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the availability of the latest release of Vontu Data Loss Prevention 8 from Symantec, the industry’s first integrated solution that combines endpoint and network-based technology to prevent the loss of confidential data wherever it is stored or used. Symantec completed the acquisition of Vontu on Nov. 30, 2007.

The product suite is now available for shipment to customers and prospects following successful beta trials to ensure the high quality and reliability of Vontu Data Loss Prevention 8. The Vontu Data Loss Prevention suite was tested in production environments in beta trials spanning a 12-week period at four Fortune 1,000 companies. The beta users found significant value in many of the capabilities that differentiate Vontu Data Loss Prevention 8 from competing products. These include the stability and scalability of the Vontu Endpoint agent, the ability to do both discovery and prevention on the endpoint, and the ability to find exposed confidential data stored in Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange, Documentum and other enterprise repositories.

During the beta test, Southern Company deployed Vontu Network Discovery and Protection and executed discovery scans on Microsoft Sharepoint and Exchange repositories, as well as internal website servers. Vontu Endpoint Discovery and Prevention were tested on production endpoint systems, and the company plans to deploy the product to 28,000 end users.

* Storage: Vontu Data Discovery and Protection solutions help organizations understand where confidential information is stored and quickly find and fix exposed data on file servers, databases, document management systems, laptops and desktops. Vontu Data Loss Prevention 8 is available immediately. Pricing starts at $25,000, and is based on the number of users and the products purchased.
