MassMutual Announces Election of William T. Spitz to its Board of Directors

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) announced today it has elected William T. Spitz to the company’s Board of Directors. Mr. Spitz, 56, a consultant, was previously the vice chancellor of Investments for Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. His appointment, unanimously approved by MassMutual’s Board of Directors, is effective December 1, 2007.

Mr. Spitz joined Vanderbilt in 1985, where during his tenure he was responsible for management of the university’s endowment fund, which has grown from $300 million to over $3.3 billion. In addition, he was responsible for the university’s technology transfer and business incubation activity, banking relations, university real estate transactions and debt management. He retired from this position earlier this year.

Prior to his appointment at Vanderbilt, Mr. Spitz served as president of NSR Asset Management Corporation and as a member of the executive committee of NSR’s parent firm. Before that, he was vice president, director of research and a portfolio manager at Wertheim Asset Management Corporation. He began his investment career as a research officer at Citibank conducting quantitative research with responsibility for developing computer-based investment decision making tools.

Mr. Spitz is a current director of Cambium Global Timber Fund, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange AIM, Acadia Realty Trust and a founder and director of Diversified Trust Company, a privately-held trust company. He is a former director of the Bradford Fund and, for three years, was chairman of the Common Fund. He has received the Rodney H. Adams Award for contributions to the field of endowment management and the Hertle Calligan & Company Award for Investment Leadership.
