Austinites Form First Grassroots Campaign to Support the PR War on Terror

WEBWIRE

Looking to make a contribution to the War on Terror, Austinites establish what is believed to be the first group in the US to dedicate its energies to fighting the PR war on terror.

“We see this as our duty to make a contribution to the war to defend our country against Islamic Jihadis who are creating a misleading image about the US and the West, said Gilbert Amine, founder of the recently-founded ”100 Ways to Win the PR War on Terror MeetUp Group in Austin".

Our objective is to exchange and develop ideas for what we, as American, can do to help win the war on terror by spreading a positive image in the Muslim world.

This group is for those interested in US policies in the Middle East, US citizens of Middle Eastern descent, and Americans who believe that the US can do more to combat misinformation about it in the Muslim and Arab world. This is NOT a forum to argue about whether it was right or wrong to go into war in Iraq. It is NOT a forum to build up opposition to US policies. This is a forum about POSITIVE CHANGES in the Middle East and what we and our government can go to help.

A War is being waged on us by Islamic extremists and they employ sophisticated propaganda to spread untruths about the West and the US, in particular. This propaganda creates the seeds for future terrorists. People who would not hesitate to kill US citizens (our own families included), if given a chance. The US Administration has not been effective in combating this propaganda. Part of the reason, is that people in the Middle East have been pre-conditioned to treat anything coming out of the US government with suspicion. However, there are hundreds of thousands of immigrants from the Middle Eastern and other Muslim countries who live the USA and can be ambassadors about the values of this great country. In fact, they have all taken an oath of allegiance to the US. They cannot and should not watch an injustice and long-term harm being done to the country that has given them so much. Individuals may not be able to do much by themselves, but by joining hands with others, we believe that a lot can be done.

We are seeking individuals who are: 1) Naturalized US citizens from the Middle East, Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, and Afghanistan; 2) current or former Peace Corps volunteers; 3) former diplomats or international relations professionals, in particular those with experience in the Middle East; 4) Professionals in advertising and public relations; 5) Professionals with background in Internet marketing and/or or graphic design
