High-Performance Carrier Ethernet Platform Accelerates Deployment of IPTV and Multiplay Services

Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Elion, a leading voice, Internet and data provider in Estonia, has deployed the MX960 Ethernet Services Router (ESR) in its core next-generation network. Elion delivers a wide range of residential and business multiplay services including High Definition TV (HDTV), IPTV and Video on Demand, and is expanding its network with the MX960 to support the continued growth of new services, applications and subscribers over a single, converged network.

“Last year Elion held meetings with several vendors to learn about its next generation network visions, enabling us to devise a strategic network development plan for the future based upon best-in-class solutions,” said Toivo Praakel, director of the Elion Internet and Data Network. “Today Elion has an NGN development framework plan in place, with tested solutions for various network segments. As a main backbone network equipment vendor Elion selected Juniper Networks. The MX960 ESR provides unmatched capacity, density and performance with a very attractive price-per-port.”

Elion offers a next-generation Home Solution that delivers quality digital TV transmission through its ADSL2+ broadband Internet network, together with super high-speed Internet (12 Mbps) and telephone service. Elion is also the first provider in Estonia to offer high definition television services, available through its DigiTV network.

Elion has deployed MX960 ESRs at a critical point in the network, which supports all voice, video and data services with high performance and reliability, improving the quality of service delivery and the end-user experience. The service provider’s core IP network has been based on Juniper Networks T-series core routers for several years, and the addition of MX960s enables Elion to leverage and extend the power, reliability and performance of the JUNOS operating system to its Ethernet-optimized infrastructure.

Juniper Networks MX960 ESR is the largest capacity carrier Ethernet platform on the market today, delivering 960 Gbps of capacity. The first in a series of Juniper platforms optimized for emerging Ethernet network architectures and services, the MX960 combines the established reliability and service flexibility of JUNOS software with a best-in-class, purpose-built hardware platform. The MX960 offers support for high-performance multicast, unmatched scalability and stability in the core network for service providers delivering next-generation multiplay services to subscribers.

“Multiplay service providers like Elion rely on their high-performance network infrastructure to ensure quality of experience for all subscribers and services,” said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president of operations, EMEA, Juniper Networks. “The MX960 combines the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of Ethernet with the high reliability, performance and scalability service providers require to deliver multiplay services effectively. We are pleased to be working with Elion to help enable their next generation network and accelerate the deployment of new services.”
