EPA grant supports environmental education program for Delaware parents and caregivers

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded a $9,375 environmental education grant to the Delaware Ecumenical Council on Children and Families to help teach parents and childcare personnel how pollution can hinder children’s health.

The Delaware Ecumenical Council will use the funding on a project that focuses on educating parents and caregivers about critical environmental issues including home safety, habitat preservation, and other problems related to land use and industrial pollution.

“By providing valuable environmental education to parents and other adults who care for children, we can help protect children from environmental dangers while also teaching them how they can play an active role in protecting the environment,” said Donald S. Welsh, administrator for EPA’s mid-Atlantic region.

Since 1992, EPA has provided almost $3 million annually in environmental education grants to local organizations, schools and government agencies nationwide. This funding supports a wide range of environmental issues for citizens of all ages.
