AT&T Establishes Advanced Communications Capabilities for Shelby Couamp;nty Election Commission for Memphis Mayoral Election

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has announced a contract with the Shelby County Election Commission to upgrade the commission’s voice services to an AT&T Private Branch Exchange (PBX) solution. In addition to cost savings on internal phone calls, the PBX solution enables the commission to leverage services that were not previously available, including call forwarding, extension dialing and advanced call-routing capabilities.

The Shelby County Election Commission already depends on AT&T for voice services at 42 locations across the county. The new upgraded PBX solution, which was used during this year’s Memphis mayoral election, enhances connectivity and security of communications across 18 additional sites.

“We required AT&T’s professional services to secure the county’s ability to communicate and effectively run election day with an advanced and reliable communications system,” said James Johnson, Information Systems, Shelby County Election Commission. “We pride ourselves on running elections smoothly and securely, and AT&T has helped us improve vital communications capabilities that contribute to that mission.”

During the election, the AT&T solution enabled the commission to redirect calls into designated Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) groups, route incoming calls more securely and eliminate inefficiencies in the commission’s original calling patterns. The enhanced calling feature functionality for the mayoral election helped provide improved service levels and new offerings to Shelby County voters in need of information from the commission. Voters experienced fewer missed or dropped calls and were better able to reach Shelby County volunteers who were managing the election.
