Meeting to be Held for Lamar Life Building Employees about Recent Mercury Spill

EPA and Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality officials will be available today at a meeting for employees of the Lamar Life Building in Jackson, Hinds County, Miss. to discuss the recent mercury spill at the building. Officials will provide information and answer questions about the cleanup underway at the Lamar Life building.

On October 16, MDEQ requested EPA assistance in the assessment and monitoring of cleanup activities at the Lamar Life Building. Approximately 1.5 cups (about 11 lbs) of mercury were reportedly spilled within the building from an overturned trash can. The building is located at 317 East Capitol Street in Jackson.
