Elsevier Journals Participate widely in Global Theme Issue on Poverty and Human Development

Today, The National Institutes of Health is hosting the launch of the Council of Science Editors’ global theme issue on poverty and human development, to coincide with the publication of related research by more than 230 journals worldwide.

Many of Elsevier’s journals will participate in The Council of Science Editors’ campaign to encourage science journals to focus on the theme ’Poverty and Human Development’ in October. Twenty-five of Elsevier’s science and health journals have in some way contributed to this important theme in October issues. The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness, stimulate interest, and encourage research into poverty and human development. It is an international collaboration with journals from developed and developing countries.

The participating journals published by Elsevier will publish new original research, review articles, editorials, perspectives, news stories, and other types of articles on the subject of poverty and human development with a common publication or release date of Monday, October 22, 2007. Elsevier journals such as Journal of the American Dietetic Association will devote most of the issue to articles on this theme. The Lancet is running an editorial in the October 27th issue which is authored by Dr Rhona MacDonald who remarks, “The Lancet is pleased to be part of the Council of Scientific Editors’ Global Poverty theme. We have commissioned some relevant content and there will also be a Lancet editorial on global poverty issues. ”

Cell Press will publish two Commentary articles online on Monday October 22nd which will appear in print in the November 2nd issue of Cell.
