Agilent Technologies’ Handset Analytics Application Identifies Top-Performing, Revenue-Producing Handsets for Broadband Services

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced a comprehensive reporting application for handset revenue analytics that enables operators to evaluate the performance and popularity of specific handsets over time. This functionality is the first assureME Intelligence reporting tool based on Agilent’s new data warehousing and reporting platform for mobile broadband networks. It allows operators to determine whether a handset is properly configured, downloads data successfully, connects to the network without a struggle, and is actually the handset type specified by the customer contract. These reports can help operators protect revenues by identifying handsets that prevent customers from using high-value services.

Agilent’s Handset Revenue Analytics exploits the capacity of Agilent’s new operational-support-system (OSS) data-warehousing and reporting platform, which is built on the industry-leading Teradata data warehouse. This is the first platform that can handle over 2 billion transaction detail records (TDRs) a day generated by lucrative packet-based services in mobile broadband networks.

Operators can further extend Handset Revenue Analytics by integrating billing, customer care and other business support systems, using numerical data such as phone numbers within individual TDRs to identify the appropriate business-support-system (BSS) records. This valuable capability allows operators to build reports that measure the revenue customers generate and understand the services and downloads they use.

Operators can then tailor advertising and promotions that speak directly to customer preferences. They can even use ongoing calling location information to make informed judgments about where to place billboards or open stores. Operators can build reports on the appeal of particular handsets, and decide which handsets to promote and which to upgrade. They can also measure trends in the popularity of third-party services and make cost-effective decisions about whether to continue these services.

“Agilent’s new business reporting capability and framework is really a marketer’s dream,” said Neil Haydon, worldwide marketing manager, Agilent Assurance Solutions Division. “Operators can determine what services are making money, which customers are the most valuable, what these customers like, and generally, where to focus investments and cut losses. All of this can be accomplished with customized reports that link the information in individual TDRs with data from business support systems. Agilent and its partner Teradata Corporation have truly mastered the huge data volumes in mobile broadband network, both from an operational and a business perspective.”
