Sony Installs BVW-L230 Professional Monitors At Discovery Communications In-House Post Production Facility

Discovery Communications has chosen Sony’s new BVM-L230 professional LCD master monitor as a key evaluation technology for its in-house post-production facility.

The media company will install 24 of the new monitors throughout the Discovery Production Center, which is responsible for various post production and media creation processes across multiple platform distribution mediums to be used for color matching, program and preview monitoring and a range of other high-end post production video monitoring functions.

Discovery recently launched four high-definition networks offering HD simulcasts of Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet and The Science Channel in addition to Discovery’s stand-alone HD network, HD Theater, according to Discovery Communications. The increased schedule of HD programming was a primary reason for choosing the top-of-the-line video monitoring system. The stunning visual imagery in the acclaimed series on Discovery Channel, Planet Earth requires color uniformity, contrast levels and color accuracy to be at consistently high levels.

The 23-inch monitor (viewable area, measured diagonally) combines a new full resolution LCD panel, a newly developed high-precision proprietary backlight system and a display engine that has been in development by Sony over the last five years. These new technologies combined become the TRIMASTER™ series, which is designed to not only bring out the full performance capabilities of professional flat-panel displays, but to also deliver high levels of color accuracy and color reproduction, precision imaging and highly consistent picture quality.
