CableFree launches E-band Millimeter Wave Gigabit Radios

Newly regulated spectrum enables higher capacity, wireless Gigabit operation

London, UK, 19 September 2007 – Leading broadband wireless infrastructure vendor, CableFree Solutions, has launched a new range of Gigabit radio products aimed at Wireless ISP, Telco, Corporate, Education and Government user applications. The new CableFree E-Band Millimeter-Wave Radios offer excellent features and performance employing high frequency microwaves in the 60 and taking advantage of the newly-regulated 70GHz ‘E-band’ spectrum.

CableFree Millimeter-Wave Radios are compact outdoor-grade products, which can deliver over 1,000Mbps or 100Mbps Full Duplex net traffic over distances up to 5km in the UK with telecom-grade (99.999%) reliability. In climates and regions with lower rainfall, longer distances of more than 8km are easily achieved.

CableFree radios employ high frequency microwaves in the 60 and newly-regulated 70GHz ‘E-band’ spectrum, which does not suffer interference that can plague users in often crowded 2.4 and 5.8GHz bands. Using narrow ‘pencil beams’ with beamwidths of under 1 degree, the E-band radios do not suffer interference that affects lower-frequency RF devices and are inherently highly secure.

Advanced and rugged, millimeter-wave technology mean the new communication platform can offer the speed and reliability demanded by next-generation networks and some of the most demanding users. The company’s OFCOM, ETSI and FCC-compliant radios are ROHS-compliant and, unlike many US vendors’ equipment, are legal for sale in Europe.

Penny Lee, Marketing Director at CableFree, said, “E-band millimeter-wave is now viable because of the recent 2007 OFCOM regulation allowing use of the 70 and 80GHz bands, with a modest £50 (€75) licence fee. CableFree E-band radios use just the 70GHz band for both transmit and receive at up to 1.25Gbps, leaving the 80GHz band completely clear. With the improved transmission in rainfall at 70GHz, our products perform far better than competing and inefficient products which require both 70 and 80GHz bands to operate.
