Locomotive ride awaits contest winners

The Cedar Rapids and Iowa City (CRANDIC) Railway Company is sponsoring two fundraisers to benefit the United Way. Rail fans are encouraged to take part in a raffle or online auction beginning September 5. The winner of each contest and a guest will receive a ride on one of CRANDIC’s famous yellow locomotives.

CRANDIC, an Alliant Energy Transportation company, is hoping to capitalize on the success of its 2006 United Way fundraising efforts, which raised more than $900. “We want to build on that momentum,” said Kevin Burke, vice president and general manager at CRANDIC. “We have the opportunity to offer rail enthusiasts something unique and lend a helping hand to eastern Iowans in the process. We’re thrilled to give back to our communities in this fun way and encourage those participating to give generously.”

Raffle tickets can be purchased for $2 each from September 5 – September 28 at the Alliant Energy Transportation office – 2330 12th St. S.W. in Cedar Rapids. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets will also available at the Alliant Energy Tower reception desk at 200 First St. S.E. during regular business hours.

Online auction bids through eBay® will begin September 6 at 8 p.m. and conclude on September 16 at 8 p.m. A link to the auction is available at www.crandic.com. Auction and raffle participants must be 18 years of age or older. More details and a complete list of rules can be viewed at CRANDIC’s Web site.
