Funding supports partnership with Delaware City Schools

PPG Industries Foundation has pledged $15,000 to the Delaware County Cultural Arts Center (DCCAC), also known as The Arts Castle, to fund a partnership program with the Delaware City Schools to provide arts experiences and professional development for teachers.

“We are very pleased that PPG has supported The Arts Castle in its ‘Arts Integration into the Curriculum’ program,” said Dan McIver, interim director, DCCAC. “The funds will be used to conduct workshops for teachers in the city and the county school systems. The goal is to give them alternative teaching methods using the arts – music or drama, for instance – that might get through to students when they respond poorly to traditional teaching.”

Teaching methods using the arts can be applied to core subjects such as social studies, math and science, McIver said, and the workshops offered by The Arts Castle will support Ohio Academic Content Standards.

The Arts Castle provides Delaware County residents with access to various multi-arts experiences, serving more than 900 individuals each quarter through more than 100 classes as well as workshops, performances, exhibitions and events.

“PPG is strongly committed to supporting the communities where its employees work and live,” said Carl Johnson, PPG director of manufacturing, North America refinish, and member of the DCCAC development and finance committee. “We are proud to support The Arts Castle in helping our community’s teachers integrate the arts into our children’s education.”
