JAKARTA – Customers of Cyberindo Aditama (CBN), Indonesia’s largest Internet service provider, can now share high-bandwidth, real-time services such as VoIP and multimedia between branch offices as quickly as they can inside a single office location using CBN’s Metro Ethernet services powered by Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT]. The Nortel Metro Ethernet Networks solution includes its innovative Provider Backbone Bridging (PBB) technology providing CBN with the ability to address the fast growing demand for high-bandwidth services previously not available to Indonesian businesses.

CBN can now provide Jakarta-area customers with Metro Ethernet services running at up to 1Gbit/s over a carrier-class Metro Ethernet transport network. Customers can experience the network speed and quality typically associated only with Local Area Networking (LAN), meaning that Wide Area Network (WAN) connections are no longer a bottleneck. Customers can seamlessly connect branch offices using high-bandwidth applications including high-definition videoconferencing, real-time data center backup and company-wide VoIP services.

“As the largest ISP in Indonesia, CBN is taking the lead in offering high-speed Metro Ethernet services to our business customers,” said Sugiharto Darmakusuma, chief commercial officer, CBN. “Our Metro Ethernet solutions will be offered in conjunction with our CBN Data Communication service. The high-speed data services will enable our customers to introduce sophisticated multimedia applications that can improve productivity, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Nortel’s Metro Ethernet solution will enable these services by providing reliable, scalable access to our metropolitan fiber-optic network while maintaining operational simplicity.”

“In today’s highly connected world, high-bandwidth communications and data services have become essential for continued business growth,” said James Demers, vice president for Nortel ASEAN and Pakistan. “Nortel’s Metro Ethernet Networks solutions support Nortel’s Business Made Simple philosophy by providing customer access to carrier networks using the same Ethernet technology they already have in their offices. By using Nortel carrier-grade solutions to expand its service capability, CBN is ensuring that its customers will have access to all the bandwidth they need, when they need it.”

CBN’s solution includes Nortel’s Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 installed at its network operations center supporting multi-Gigabit Ethernet access to Metro Ethernet Services Unit 1800 switches installed in Jakarta to CBN’s fiber-optic network connections. The solution provides carrier-grade reliability with sub-50 millisecond service restoration in the event of any failures or fiber cuts.

As the first vendor to support PBB technology, Nortel is transforming Ethernet into a true carrier-class technology that is simpler to deploy and supports a richer set of business connectivity and triple/quadruple play services, wireless aggregation and backhaul applications.

Nortel’s Metro Ethernet Networking Solutions brace metropolitan area networks to handle the coming explosion of high-bandwidth video and data applications seen in increasing demand today. With Nortel’s Metro Ethernet solutions, service providers can now confidently use Ethernet as a means for delivering the most critical high-bandwidth services, such as IPTV, mobile video and business connectivity services.
